Sr Epidemiologist

The incumbent will serve as an Epidemiologist within TTSH, providing scientific and methodological expertise to support clinical and health services research across the research lifecycle. This includes grant writing, study design, epidemiological analysis, bias reduction, and interpretation of data to strengthen the quality and impact of research.

 

In addition, the incumbent will contribute to institutional research capability building by supporting the development of clinician-investigators through structured guidance, mentorship, and participation in research talent development initiatives under the Research Talent Development Committee (RTDC). He / she will also provide administrative and operational support to institutional research talent development platforms.

 

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

SPECIFIC (80%)

 

1. Epidemiology & Scientific Advisory 

  • Provide epidemiological expertise in the design, conduct, and evaluation of clinical and health services research.
  • Work closely with clinician Principal Investigators to design robust studies, including selection of appropriate methodologies, sampling strategies, and outcome measures.
  • Identify and address sources of bias, confounding, and methodological limitations in study design.
  • Perform or guide data analysis using appropriate statistical and epidemiological methods (in collaboration with biostatisticians where required).
  • Support development of data collection tools, databases, and study workflows.
  • Contribute to interpretation of study findings and translation into meaningful clinical or health system insights.
  • Support the writing of scientific manuscripts, study reports, and responses to peer reviewers.
  • Contribute epidemiological input to grant applications, particularly in study design, methodology, and analysis plans.
  • Promote the understanding and application of epidemiology within TTSH through consultations, teaching sessions, and seminars.

 

2. Protocol Development and Scientific Advisory

  • Provide advisory support in the development and refinement of research protocols to ensure scientific rigor and methodological soundness.
  • Assist investigators in translating research ideas into structured and feasible study protocols.
  • Provide internal scientific review of research proposals and study protocols prior to submission.
  • Identify potential methodological weaknesses and provide recommendations to strengthen research design and scientific validity.

 

3. Regulatory and Ethics Support

  • Guide investigators in preparing submissions for Institutional Review Board (IRB) and other regulatory approvals.
  • Advise researchers on ethical considerations, regulatory requirements, and compliance with institutional policies and research governance frameworks.
  • Ensure research documentation is prepared in accordance with regulatory and institutional requirements.

 

4. Research Capability Development and RTDC Support

  • Nurture and develop new research talents; to guide them in starting up a research project.
  • Support institutional research talent development initiatives aimed at strengthening research capabilities among early-stage investigators.
  • Provide operational and administrative support for the Research Talent Development Committee (RTDC), including coordination of meetings, preparation of papers, documentation of deliberations, and follow-up of action items.
  • Administer and support institutional research development programmes such as the Support to Aspiring Research Talent (StART) and Fostering Research through Active Mentoring and Engagement (FRAME), including coordinating call for proposals, facilitating proposal review processes, and supporting the evaluation and selection of awardees.
  • Manage the operational aspects of programme funding, including tracking of awarded funds, monitoring utilisation, ensuring adherence to funding guidelines, and maintaining proper documentation for governance and audit purposes.
  • Facilitate the monitoring and reporting of progress for funded projects and research talent development initiatives, including tracking milestones, deliverables, and outcomes.
  • Contribute to the organisation of workshops, seminars, and training activities related to research development, grant writing, and research methodology.

 

5. Management of Research Joint Appointment Processes

  • Coordinate and manage the workflow related to research Joint Appointments, including processing applications, supporting documentation, and routing for institutional review and approval.
  • Liaise with relevant stakeholders such as academic and research partners, institutional leadership, HR, and research offices to facilitate the appointment process.
  • Ensure proper documentation, governance oversight, and record management of Joint Appointment cases.
  • Support the tracking and reporting of Joint Appointment profiles and contributions to institutional research development.

 

GENERAL (20%)

  • Support the implementation of institutional initiatives that strengthen research infrastructure and research governance.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of research policies, guidelines, and operational workflows.
  • Participate in institutional committees, workgroups, or taskforces related to research development and governance where required.
  • Maintain proper documentation and records to support institutional reporting and audit requirements, and performance tracking.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and objectives of the research office.
