Senior/Staff Nurse (NHG Health Centre)
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Patient Care
- Deliver nurse‑led travel health and vaccination services, including clinical screening, vaccination, health education, and post‑vaccination monitoring, in accordance with approved protocols
- Deliver nurse‑led workplace and pre‑employment screening services, including health assessments, phlebotomy, and coordination of laboratory investigations
- Provide individualised health screening services, including blood taking and preventive screening procedures, tailored to individual or organisational needs
- Perform phlebotomy (venepuncture) and blood sample collection safely and competently for diagnostic and screening purposes
- Conduct cervical cancer screening (subject to training, credentialing, and organisational approval) as part of preventive and population health services
- Ensure correct labelling, handling, storage, and coordination of specimens for timely laboratory processing
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for clients attending preventive, occupational, and travel health services
- Develop person‑centred care and screening plans aligned to patients’ health risks, needs, and preferences
- Perform evidence‑based nursing interventions in accordance with organisational workflows and clinical protocols
- Administer medications and vaccines safely and accurately
- Apply sound clinical judgement, critical thinking, and problem‑solving skills in preventive and screening‑focused care
- Recognise, manage, and escalate abnormal findings, adverse events, or unexpected clinical changes appropriately
- Maintain accurate, timely, and concise documentation of clinical encounters and procedures
- Collaborate with doctors, laboratories, operations teams, and external partners (e.g. employers) to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous service delivery
- Support service delivery in off‑site / workplace settings, including on‑site vaccination, screening, and blood‑taking services where required
Senior Staff Nurse (where applicable):
- Support navigation of preventive care and screening pathways for individuals and organisations
- Assist in planning, implementation, and evaluation of nurse‑led preventive, travel health, and occupational screening services
- Contribute to development and refinement of service workflows and patient education materials
2. Patient Safety, Quality Improvement and Research
- Adhere to infection prevention and control standards, including safe vaccination, phlebotomy, and specimen handling practices
- Uphold cold chain management, medication safety, and biological sample safety standards
- Participate in audits and quality reviews related to vaccination, phlebotomy, and screening services
- Identify, report, and escalate clinical, specimen‑related, and workplace risks to ensure patient and staff safety
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and service evaluations for nurse‑led preventive and screening programmes
3. Professional Development
- Maintain and update competencies in vaccination, phlebotomy, screening services, and preventive health
- Participate in training and continuing education to support expanded scope of practice
- Acquire additional competencies relevant to service growth, including cervical cancer screening, subject to credentialing
- Support orientation and supervision of junior nurses and nursing students
Senior Staff Nurse (where applicable):
- Conduct on‑the‑job training and competency assessments for vaccination, phlebotomy, and screening procedures
- Lead knowledge‑sharing and skills development activities within the nursing team
4. Leadership and Management
- Handle patient’s feedback and public enquiries promptly and efficiently
- (Senior Staff Nurse) Lead fellow nurses and oversee nursing stations as assigned by supervisor
- (Senior Staff Nurse) Conduct regular small group meetings to identify issues encountered and improve processes in service rooms

- Performance of procedures (including phlebotomy and cervical cancer screening) is subject to training, competency assessment, credentialing, and organisational approval
- Travel health and workplace screening services are designed as nurse‑led models, with medical support as required
