Senior Manager, Legal
JOB PURPOSE
The role is required to provide timely and practical legal advice and support to NHG Health and its institutions across a broad range of legal, regulatory and governance matters, with a particular focus on managing claims and litigation, enabling the organisation to achieve its strategic and operational objectives while managing legal risk.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide legal advice and manage litigation, claims, disputes and medical negligence matters, including coordinating with internal stakeholders, clinical teams, insurers and external counsel.
- Review, draft and negotiate contracts, templates and legal documents, including MOUs, service agreements, collaboration agreements, clinical trial agreements, research collaboration agreements, IT and technology agreements, NDAs, consultancy agreements, lease or licence agreements and other commercial arrangements.
- Advise NHG Health and its institutions on employment and staff-related matters, including disciplinary issues, employment contracts and HR policies.
- Advise on insurance-related matters, including scope of coverage and terms under public liability insurance, clinical trials insurance, directors’ and officers’ liability insurance and other relevant policies.
- Support legal and regulatory compliance work, including reviews for compliance with the Healthcare Services Act, Health Information Act, Personal Data Protection Act, Human Biomedical Research Act and other applicable healthcare laws, regulations and guidelines.
- Assist with review of internal policies on areas such as data protection, data security, IT, research, clinical operations and governance.
- Provide preliminary advice on intellectual property matters, including trade mark registration, copyright provisions and protection of intellectual property rights.
- Provide legal advice and legal support to all NHG Health institutions, including partnering with internal and external stakeholders on strategic initiatives and critical projects involving healthcare industry partners.
- Conducting internal training seminars for NHG and NHG Institution staff on general areas of law such as basics of contracting.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Supervisor or Head of Department.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: LLB or equivalent law degree and called to the Singapore Bar.
- Experience: 5 to 8 years’ post-qualification experience, with at least 2 years in private practice.
- Skills & Knowledge:
- Litigation and dispute resolution experience is required. Healthcare, medical negligence or medico-legal experience would be advantageous.
- Strong drafting, negotiation, legal research and analytical skills, with the ability to provide practical and risk-based advice.
- Able to manage routine and moderately complex matters independently, while escalating significant legal, reputational or operational risks where appropriate.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with management, clinicians, administrators, insurers, external counsel and other stakeholders.
