Research Asst - Pathology Research (Contract)
Responsibilities
The Research Assistant will support the execution of project-funded research activities within the Department of Pathology. The role encompasses both research coordination and pathology/laboratory-based research support, including digital slide preparation and image management. He/she will work closely with investigators and study teams to ensure research activities are conducted in accordance with approved protocols, institutional policies, and regulatory requirements.
The key duties include:

Assist investigators and study teams in the planning, initiation, and conduct of assigned research studies.

Support subject screening, recruitment coordination, and study scheduling in accordance with approved protocols as required.

Assist with data collection, data entry, validation, and maintenance of accurate research records.

Maintain study documentation, including investigator files and essential study records.

Support submissions, renewals, and reporting requirements to relevant regulatory and institutional bodies, where applicable.

Coordinate meetings and communications with clinicians, research staff, and other stakeholders (internal and external).

Contribute to the preparation of progress reports, summaries, and research outputs.

Assist with the collation of project-related activity records and documentation to support administrative and financial reporting, where required

Work with relevant stakeholders to coordinate the proper archiving and transfer of research data (e.g. digital images) in accordance with study protocols and institutional requirements.

Assist in case selection, slide preparation, labelling, and annotation in accordance with study requirements.

Retrieve, track, and file tissue blocks and slides before and after staining or processing.

Operate laboratory equipment related to slide production (e.g. microtome, water bath, slide drying equipment, autostainer, coverslipper), with training provided where required.

Perform and document routine equipment and reagent maintenance as instructed.

Operate digital slide scanners to acquire high-quality digital images.

Maintain systematic records, archiving, and organisation of physical slides and digital images.

Coordinate proper storage, transfer, and retrieval of research images and materials for analysis

Ensure compliance with study protocols, institutional policies, and applicable research governance requirements.

Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to support smooth execution of research activities.

Undertake other research-related or other duties as assigned by the Reporting Officer, consistent with the role.
Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. Biomedical Science, Life Sciences, Health Sciences or related fields).
- Prior research or pathology laboratory experience is an advantage but not required. Fresh graduates will be provided with on the job training.

Strong interest in clinical and/or pathology-based research.

Able to work well in a fast paced environment with multiple stakeholder management.
- Able to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.

Good organisational skills with attention to detail.

Good written and verbal communication skills.

Computer literacy and ability to learn research-related systems and tools required.
- Successful candidates will be offered a 2 year contract.
