Principal/Sr Medical Laboratory Scientist - Pathology Research (Contract)
Responsibilities
- This position will contribute to the execution of the project-funded research activities within the Department of Pathology. The incumbent is expected to undertake central review and annotation of pathology slides, and oversee the process of slide production and digital image acquisition for the purposes of the study.
The key duties include:
- Work with the study team to understand the study protocol needs. This will include attending any training courses organized by the main study site for alignment and standardization of work processes and reporting.
- Be responsible for case and slide selection, slide and image preparations (including sectioning and staining quality control for the purposes of the study), annotations and labelling.
- Perform research-level histopathology review and annotation of slides according to study protocols, maintaining appropriate documentation of case selection and findings.
- Serve as the communication link between the study site (TTSH) and the main site (BII).
- Work with relevant stakeholders to ensure proper archiving and transfer of images to the main study site for analysis in accordance with study protocols and institutional requirements.
- Be responsible for the DSRB and grant applications and management, including sourcing for funding and documentation/record-keeping of funds utilization.
- Ensure compliance with study protocols, institutional policies, and applicable research governance requirements.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to support smooth execution of research activities.
- Undertake other research-related or other duties as assigned by the Reporting Officer, consistent with the role.
Job Requirements
- MBBS or MD degree preferred or PhD, MSc, or equivalent advanced degree in pathology‑related biomedical sciences, medical laboratory science, or a related discipline
- Formal training in histopathology, including tissue processing, sectioning, staining, and quality control.
- Experience working in a hospital pathology department or equivalent laboratory environment is desirable. Candidates will be placed in roles commensurate with their level of experience ranging from Sr Medical Laboratory Scientist to Principal Medical Laboratory Scientist.
- Experience with regulatory documentation and research administration (e.g. DSRB submissions, grant management) is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Demonstrated competency in slide review and annotation.
- Demonstrated experience supporting research studies or clinical research projects, preferably within a pathology or laboratory setting
- Ability to work effectively within research study protocols and institutional governance frameworks.
- Familiarity with digital pathology platforms and image management systems is an advantage.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills, including preparation of regulatory and study‑related records.
- Effective communication skills to coordinate with multidisciplinary research and laboratory teams
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
- Successful candidates will be offered a 2 year contract
