STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
|
|
To be responsible for the daily administrative and smooth running of the section as an advanced clinical practitioner with high level of skills and critical knowledge. Assists department HOS in planning and development of the department whilst continuously developing practice within a defined field and seeking improvement and innovation in practice and/or services to create greater value and impact for patients and system. Supervisory duties of the whole section in patient care, diagnostic quality, clinical responsibilities, radiation protection and effective use of technology. May oversee and have responsibility for an identified area of clinical service.

DEPARTMENT FUNCTION(S)
- Major Duties and Responsibilities
(A) Clinical Practice & Improvement (60%)
- Maintain consistent standards of care (including clinical and service) for complex/specialized cases/in advanced/extended scope practice.
- Lead/be accountable for improvement of safe and effective care within the department.
- Lead/facilitate clinical practice improvement or quality improvement projects at inter-department/institution level.
- Maintain and manage team/specialty services/department workload.
- Provide radiology services as requested by referring clinicians according to statutory regulations and acceptable clinical standards.
- Ensure compliance to Radiation safety regulations.
- Responsible for quality control programs and maintenance of imaging equipment and accessories in the section.
- Coordinate with staff from other sections or departments to ensure continuity of patient care.
- Work closely with clinicians to establish and revise clinical imaging protocols.
- Write, evaluate and review standard operating protocols (SOPs) and standard work instructions (SWIs). Cognizant of relevant SOPs and SWIs in the section.
- Collates quality related statistics and implement solutions for the section.
- Ensure proper records keeping and management

(B) Education
- Assist in the training and continual education of the staff in the section.
- Coach/Supervise/Train senior staff (JG14 and below) and/or students (as clinical educator or mentor).
- Conduct health profession education in specialized/advanced topics (i.e. talk/ lecture/ workshop) at local/regional/international level.
- Develop/review training curriculum and assessments based on identified needs/gaps.
- Plan, organize and oversee education/training activities for interdisciplinary staff at division/hospital level.
(C) Research & Innovation
- Steer research by identifying gaps in prioritized areas for further research and/or opportunities for innovation.
- Principal investigator/lead in research/innovation projects at departmental level.
- Submit research/innovation projects to intra-mural grants.
- Present research/innovation at international conferences.
- Generate research/innovation evidence for publications in recognized peer-reviewed journals.
(D) Leadership & Management
- Plan and manage resources to achieve optimal delivery at team/department level to meet strategic goals and outcome targets.
- Plan/develop/review/implement service/program/project at intra/inter-department level.
- Supervises and deploy staff assigned to the section.
- Engage senior staff (department) to manage/coach performance and professional development.
- Handle complaints from patients and from other departments for the section.
- Lead inter-department/inter-professional workgroups to deliver/improve/transform service and care to meet current and emerging needs.
- Critically review evidence and identify emerging trends to lead changes in value-based service delivery and care model at department level.
- Responsible for the inventory of stocks and materials in the section.
- Manages the department in the absence of the Head of Service (HOS).
- In addition to the duties of Principal Radiographer, he/she will be more involved in the purchase, evaluation and installation of new machines.
- Any other duties as assigned by the Head of service or Head of Department.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
(A) EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
- Recognized Diploma or Degree in Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent.
- Minimum 7-8 years of relevant experience as Radiographer, with demonstrated competencies expected of Principal Radiographer AH15-16, including experience in mentorship, coaching and supervision.
- Competent in Diagnostic Radiography and conversant in radiographic processing, quality control of image and trouble-shooting of imaging equipment.
- Post-graduate certification/degree or postgraduate diploma or advanced training in specialized radiographic techniques would be advantageous.
(B) PROFESSIONAL LICENCE
- Registration with Allied Health Professions Council (AHPC)
- Valid practicing certificate
- Radiation Protection Act compliance.
- Radiation Worker License
- Accreditation/Certification on specific area of practice (where applicable)
