Why This Role Matters
Reliable mechanical and ACMV (Air Conditioning and Mechanical Ventilation) systems are essential to maintaining a safe, efficient, and comfortable healthcare environment. This role ensures that critical infrastructure supporting hospital operations is well maintained, compliant, and responsive to operational needs.
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will support the management of facilities operations, work closely with specialist vendors, and contribute to system improvements and projects. Your work ensures minimal disruption to hospital services, supports infection control requirements, and enhances overall patient and staff experience.
What You Will Drive
1. Mechanical Systems Operations & Maintenance
- Support the management and execution of preventive and corrective maintenance for mechanical systems, including chilled water systems, air handling units, fan coil units, ventilation systems, hot water systems, and building management systems.
- Coordinate and oversee day to day maintenance activities carried out by maintenance agents and specialist contractors.
- Monitor system performance and ensure maintenance schedules are adhered to.
- Ensure prompt service recovery and troubleshooting for equipment breakdowns to minimise disruption to hospital operations.
2. Vendor & Contract Management
- Assist in the preparation and administration of maintenance service contracts for mechanical and ACMV systems.
- Monitor contractor performance against KPIs and ensure compliance with service standards and contractual requirements.
- Work closely with vendors to identify service gaps and implement improvement measures.
- Ensure safety standards and proper work practices are adhered to by outsourced maintenance teams.
3. Projects & Improvement Initiatives
- Support planning, coordination, and execution of facilities improvement projects, including upgrading, retrofitting, and replacement of system infrastructure.
- Prepare technical specifications, drawings, cost estimates, and project schedules for mechanical engineering works.
- Participate in cyclical and improvement projects initiated at departmental and hospital levels.
- Provide technical input and recommendations for system upgrades, replacements, or enhancements.
4. Technical Support & Advisory
- Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support to maintenance teams for specialised mechanical system issues.
- Analyse system failures and recommend appropriate corrective actions, including system replacement where necessary.
- Review and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation to support operations and projects.
5. Team Leadership & Operational Support
- Lead and guide engineering assistants on day to day ACMV and mechanical maintenance activities.
- Support cross functional coordination to ensure smooth operational workflows across facilities services.
- Perform additional duties assigned by the Head of Department in support of operational and organisational needs.
What You Bring
Education & Experience
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Candidates with a Diploma and 5–9 years of relevant mechanical system experience may also be considered.
- 1–4 years of relevant experience in mechanical systems or facilities operations is preferred.
- Experience in design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of mechanical systems is an advantage.
- Experience in managing mechanical services, facilities operations, or improvement projects is advantageous.
- Prior experience in a healthcare setting is a plus.
Technical Skills
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and M&E schematic drawings.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and AutoCAD.
- Familiarity with BIM or 3D modelling tools will be an advantage.
