NHG Vision: Adding years of healthy life
CHI Mission: Driving innovation for systems change
The Centre for Healthcare Innovation (CHI) is committed to catalysing and driving innovation for systems change in healthcare, thereby adding years of healthy life. Built on the foundation of co-learning and collaboration, CHI’s core is in facilitating innovation through its suite of platforms and programmes. CHI has built a dynamic network of local and international partners who are dedicated to fostering innovation, creating thought leadership, co-building initiatives to inculcate and embed a culture of innovation within healthcare. We spearhead innovation by driving the adoption of the CHI Innovation Cycle, care and process redesign and in the use of technology. CHI leads transformation at the care, systems and ecosystem levels to achieve better health and healthcare.
About the Digital Innovation Office (DIO)
The Digital Innovation Office (DIO) under the Centre for Healthcare Innovation (CHI) drives NHG Health’s digital transformation across three key platforms: Digital Hospital, Digital Community, and Health Empowered by AI Launchpad (HEAL).
DIO’s mission is to enable transformation and deliver impact by supporting institution-led platforms that advance workforce and care transformation. Through collaborative programmes and partnerships, DIO serves as a catalyst for AI adoption at scale and digital innovation across hospitals and community care.
JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Assistant Director, Digital Innovation Office (DIO), the role will support DIO’s three key platforms by transforming real-world challenges from clinicians and healthcare operations into testable proofs of concept (POCs). The Engineer (DIS) will play a critical technical role in rapid prototyping, iterative development, and sandbox capability building to support CHI’s digital and AI-enabled future.
This role blends technical engineering, user-engaged product iteration, and technology ecosystem stewardship—working closely with clinicians, operations teams, UX specialists, data scientists, and industry partners.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. User Engagement and Iterative Development
- Conduct regular engagement sessions with clinicians and operational users to gather feedback and validate evolving prototypes.
- Collaborate with UX lead and users to co‑curate, refine, and prioritize the product backlog, ensuring alignment between user needs, feasibility, and POC objectives.
- Translate user feedback into actionable technical enhancements during rapid iteration cycles.
- Support usability testing, demo preparation, and evidence collection for decision-making.
2. Sandbox Capability Development & Industry Matchmaking
- Support the design and enhancement of DIS’ innovation sandbox, including tools, environments, APIs, data proxies, and integration patterns that future POCs can leverage.
- Work with innovation partners to onboard new sandbox-ready solutions, focusing on future healthcare, AI/ML, agentic systems, and emerging digital tools.
- Track ecosystem developments and recommend new capabilities to strengthen DIO’s experimentation and feasibility‑testing platforms.
3. Technical Prototyping & Engineering (Front-end, Back-end, AI/LLM Integration)
- Train teams on technical tools and approach on building functional prototypes using suitable frameworks and low-code/no-code tools, compliant with NHG cybersecurity and governance requirements.
- Design lightweight solution architectures including front-end interfaces, back-end services/APIs, workflow logic and data handling for standalone POC deployments or within NHG’s controlled environments.
- Advise teams on integrating prototypes with internal machine learning models, clinical decision-support modules, or LLMs where appropriate.
- Advise on robust technical documentation, diagrams, and handover artefacts for future scaling.
- Provide hands-on development support where needed.
4. Administrative support
- Support DIS in secretariat or administrative work where needed.
- Design and deliver hands-on training workshops on modern software development practices and the effective use of cloud-based tools and platforms.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on engineering experience (full-stack, rapid prototyping, or solution engineering).
- Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS preferred), containerized deployments, and enterprise integration patterns.
- Experience integrating AI/ML models, REST APIs, or LLMs into applications preferred.
- Ability to build and iterate prototypes using both traditional development stacks (e.g., JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, .NET) and low-code/no-code tools within enterprise security constraints.
- Knowledge in:
- Front-end frameworks (React, Angular, Vue)
- Back-end frameworks (Node.js, FastAPI, .NET Core)
- Databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, NoSQL)
Desired Skills
- Passion for innovation prototyping and exploring effective approaches to develop novel applications.
- Experience working in healthcare, or with standards such as HL7/FHIR, is advantageous.
- Understanding of cybersecurity principles, data protection, and safe experimentation in healthcare settings.
- Experience working with vendors or external tech partners is a bonus.
- Passion for enabling future tech-stack and approaches for implementation
