Exercise Physiologist (Contract)

KLARIS is a cardiometabolic precision health research centre anchored at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, NHG Health. Operating on a Predict–Monitor–Treat framework, KLARIS integrates genomics, biomarkers and digital health technologies to develop personalised strategies for cardiometabolic disease prevention and management in Singapore’s multi-ethnic population.

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Exercise Physiologist to support the delivery of precision exercise interventions and research programmes within KLARIS. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge translational research at the intersection ofexercise science and digital health. The successful candidate will work directly with research participants and patients, conducting exercise assessments, delivering personalised exercise interventions, and contributing to translational research aimed at improving cardiometabolic health outcomes.

 

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care and Exercise Management

  • Conduct comprehensive exercise and functional assessments for research participants and patients enrolled in cardiometabolic health programmes.
  • Develop and implement individualised exercise prescriptions in accordance with study protocols and participant needs.
  • Perform comprehensive cardiorespiratory fitness evaluations using metabolic cart
  • Conduct functional capacity assessments (6-minute walk test, sit-to-stand, grip strength, physical activity assessments, and other validated measures.)
  • Monitor participant safety and physiological responses during exercise interventions and assessments.
  • Contribute to integration of exercise data with clinical, metabolic and biomarker datasets Provide exercise education, counselling, and coaching to support behavioural change and adherence.
  • Maintain accurate participant records and documentation.

 

Research Activities

  • Support the planning, implementation, and execution of research studies involving exercise, rehabilitation, lifestyle interventions, and digital health technologies.
  • Collect, manage, and maintain research data in compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements.
  • Support ethics and grant applications and related research protocols
  • Contribute to data analysis, manuscript preparation, scientific reports, and conference presentations.
  • Analyse functional, physiological and wearable-derived activity data
  • Collaborate closely with clinicians, nutritionists, data scientists and external research partners
  • Participate in academic publications and dissemination of research findings.
  • Lead or co-author peer-reviewed publications and present findings at scientific meetings and conferences
  • Translate research outputs into prototype exercise or rehabilitation pathways and participant education materials
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of KLARIS research programmes and strategic initiatives

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s in Sport Science and Management or related disciplines
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in exercise physiology, preferably in cardiopulmonary, cardiac rehabilitation
  • Experience conducting cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) with metabolic cart
  • Demonstrated research experience with publications in peer-reviewed journals (or strong research interest)
  • Strong understanding of cardiometabolic disease pathophysiology and exercise responses
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage participants from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
