Engineer, 3D Printing Centre
Overview
We are seeking a Medical 3D Printing Engineer to support and expand clinical 3D printing services within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment. The role involves translating medical imaging data into patient-specific solutions, including anatomical models, surgical guides, and medical devices, while working closely with clinicians, radiographers, and researchers.
This position will be deployed in a rostered model across multiple institutions, including:
Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), National University Hospital (NUH), Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH), Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH), and Woodlands Health Campus (WHC), providing exposure to diverse clinical applications and workflows.
You will play a key role in delivering end-to-end 3D printing workflows—from image processing and digital modelling to manufacturing, quality assurance, and clinical application.
Key Responsibilities
1. Clinical Collaboration & Anatomical Modelling
- Work closely with clinicians across institutions to understand clinical requirements and translate them into 3D printing solutions
- Perform medical image segmentation and anatomical model reconstruction
- Ensure accuracy, usability, and clinical relevance of produced models
2. 3D Printing Operations & Engineering
- Operate and manage 3D printing systems for clinical production across different hospital sites
- Produce patient-specific models and devices, including:
- Surgical planning models
- Surgical guides
- Prosthetics and orthotics
- Educational models
- Select appropriate materials and printing technologies based on clinical needs
- Conduct quality assurance checks and ensure output standards
3. Digital Workflow & Data Processing
- Process DICOM data using medical imaging software (e.g., 3D Slicer, Mimics, or equivalent)
- Prepare models for additive manufacturing (STL conversion, mesh optimisation, slicing)
- Maintain efficient and reproducible digital workflows
4. Quality, Compliance & Documentation
- Maintain proper documentation including:
- Design reports
- Quality and validation reports
- Process documentation
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and patient data confidentiality
- Support development of SOPs and best practices across institutions
5. Equipment Maintenance & Continuous Improvement
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of 3D printing equipment
- Support evaluation and adoption of new technologies, materials, and workflows
- Contribute to research, innovation, and service development initiatives
Requirements
- Degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- Experience in medical 3D printing or healthcare-related engineering is preferred
- Proficiency in:
- Medical image processing (e.g., 3D Slicer, Mimics, etc.)
- CAD / 3D modelling tools
- Additive manufacturing technologies and materials
- Understanding of anatomy and clinical applications (preferred)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Attention to detail with high quality standards
- Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams
- Effective communication with clinical and technical stakeholders
