Director, CHI - Kaizen Office
Reporting to the Clinical Director of the Centre for Healthcare Innovation, the Director will provide direction in achieving a synergistic relationship with the Centre for Healthcare Innovation (CHI) for NHG and the Institutions’ workforce growth and transformation strategies and facilitate renewal capability development.
- Lead in developing and executing strategies to strengthen the improvement and innovation culture and capability in NHG and Institutions and enable system-level transformation.
- Drive improvement and innovation projects for the organization's long-term success, aiming to deliver value to patients, staff, and residents.
- Developing tools and programs that empower teams and individuals to drive transformation work, leading to enhanced competitiveness and sustained success.
- Lead and develop strategies to drive Kaizen initiatives among NHG and Institutions by identifying innovation and improvement opportunities, implementing best practices, and developing Kaizen networks.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Strategic and Organizational Alignment
- To work closely with senior leadership, partners, and external stakeholders to formulate the Kaizen Office strategy and ensure alignment with CHI and NHG strategic goals and outcomes.
- To anticipate opportunities and challenges for the organization.
- Establish a portfolio of initiatives to achieve target outcomes including driving broad NHG cluster-wide cultural transformation.
- To identify, monitor, communicate, and review the organizational value measures and indicators and tie these indicators’ performance back to CHI & NHG’s value delivery journey.
- Deliver Solutions & Values
- To work closely with senior leadership to align the department’s work plan and activities with CHI and NHG’s strategies and priorities.
- To work closely with senior leadership, partners, and external stakeholders to implement key initiatives that would deliver better value to patients and staff. This will include, but not be limited to the following objectives:

- To optimize key resources' utilization and ensure operational/cost-effectiveness
- To effect and ensure appropriate corporate governance
- To develop and maintain a financially sustainable value delivery system

- To embrace change and lead by example in challenging the status quo and planning ahead on operational and tactical issues
- To provide leadership oversight of the Kaizen Office in designing, developing, and implementing a continuous quality improvement model, underpinned by “Lean Principles and Design Thinking,” aligned with clinical and service quality, to create value for patients and staff.
- To engage in and model strong and positive relationships with internal and external sponsors and partners to drive healthcare and digital transformation efforts.
- To provide oversight in the development of CHI Living Lab (CHILL) as a body to support the acceleration of healthcare innovations in the areas of process, product, and technology.
- Develop Innovation and Improvement Capabilities
- To plan, design, and execute structured capability-building programs that strengthen NHGs' and institutions' improvement and innovation culture and enable system-level transformation.
- To work closely with divisions and department heads in executing initiatives that enable capability building of our people through avenues including (but not limited to) training and involvement in improvement and innovation projects.
- To be the faculty and project coach for CHI Academies: developing curriculum, delivering training, and project coaching.
- To continuously benchmark, review, and refine with the intent to stay ahead of changing needs and maintain relevancy:
- A suite of improvement and innovation tools and training programmes.
- Internal capabilities (that includes but is not limited to new skills required, new improvement and innovation tools and methodologies, and emerging technologies that will enhance the way we work).
- Deepen Relationship with Stakeholders
- To lead, develop, and execute a comprehensive engagement strategy for Kaizen communities among NHG, the Institutions, and partners that would enable transformation efforts.
- Connect and network with key stakeholders regularly to understand the needs of all levels of staff and plan for targeted and relevant interventions.
- Establish strong partnerships with Academies and health and social care partners that would be directly relevant to accelerating/enabling the Kaizen Office’s activities.
- People Leadership
- To enable an environment of open communication, transparency, leadership development, and effective teamwork.
- To empower internal and external stakeholders and guide these teams with clear directions to deliver better value to patients and staff.
- To engage people and encourage them to exemplify CHI and NHG’s vision, mission, and values.
- To provide leadership and guidance to department members to steer improvement and innovation efforts in the right direction and enable professional development.
- To oversee the enculturation of an improvement and innovation culture supported by values, skills, facilities, and processes to drive improvement and innovation at the hospital, cluster, and national levels.
- To provide leadership oversight in the design and execution of an improvement and innovation roadmap to grow the respective levels of staff pegged to their capacity for the work environment.
- To engage senior leadership and partners to empower and support staff in improvement and innovation.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
(A) EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree and above
- At least 15 years of relevant experience, of which at least 5 years involve management experience in healthcare.
- Excellent strategic agility, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work seamlessly between strategic and tactical.
- Strong experience in the facilitation and application of improvement and innovation methodologies.
- Experience in leading a team.
