The Digital Innovation Office (DIO) under the Centre for Healthcare Innovation (CHI) drives NHG Health’s digital transformation across three key platforms: Digital Hospital, Digital Community, and Health Empowered by AI Launchpad (HEAL).

DIO’s mission is to enable transformation and deliver impact by supporting institution-led platforms that advance workforce and care transformation. Through collaborative programmes and partnerships, DIO serves as a catalyst for AI adoption at scale and digital innovation across hospitals and community care.

About HEAL

Health Empowered by AI Launchpad (HEAL) supports the implementation and adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) across NHG Health. It works with clinical, operational and technical teams to address service needs, establish readiness for implementation, and track utilisation and value in practice.

Job summary

Reporting to the HEAL Programme Lead, the Senior Manager / Assistant Director, AI Project Delivery helps clinical and operational teams turn AI opportunities into solutions that are implemented, used and deliver measurable value. The role leads and develops the project delivery team, providing oversight or direct project leadership according to each project’s needs.

The incumbent understands stakeholders’ operational problems and works alongside them to achieve agreed outcomes. They exercise independent judgement, take initiative and develop practical recommendations in unfamiliar situations. They build effective working relationships, negotiate commitments and maintain momentum through setbacks.

Main duties and responsibilities

1. Project delivery and management

1.1 Define project scope, ownership, resources and milestones with sponsors and teams. Recommend and coordinate delivery support within agreed management priorities and capacity, taking direct responsibility where project needs require it.

1.2 Manage delivery risks, dependencies, budgets and scope changes. Anticipate obstacles, investigate issues and recommend practical action, bringing unresolved decisions to sponsors or management with clear options.

2. Stakeholder partnership

2.1 Understand stakeholders’ operational problems and workflows, and work alongside them to shape practical solutions and resolve barriers. Navigate conflicting priorities, challenge assumptions constructively and secure responsibilities and commitments.

2.2 Coordinate clinical, operational and technical teams, the Digital Innovation Studio (DIS), data scientists and partners. Obtain specialist advice and required decisions through established governance arrangements.

3. Adoption and utilisation

3.1 Work with operational owners on workflow changes, user engagement, training, readiness, support and handover into routine operations.

3.2 Track utilisation and user feedback, and work with operational owners to address adoption barriers. Recommend changes or next steps based on readiness, utilisation and evidence.

4. Value tracking and reporting

4.1 Agree benefit measures and baselines with sponsors and relevant evaluation or finance colleagues. Track and report costs and realised value as part of project delivery, distinguish expected from evidenced benefits, and recommend action where outcomes fall short.

5. AI implementation

5.1 Understand AI implementation requirements and coordinate specialist input into project planning and delivery.

6. Team leadership and development

6.1 Lead, train and coach the project delivery team, and coordinate additional resources assigned to projects. Provide practical guidance and feedback to build capability and independent delivery.

6.2 Allocate agreed work, review delivery quality and guide difficult decisions. Build team members’ ability to deliver independently and supervise direct reports within agreed reporting arrangements.

Organisation relationships

Work with project sponsors and clinical, operational and technical teams to deliver agreed management priorities. Sponsors retain accountability for service changes and benefits; specialist approvals remain with the designated authorities.

Job requirements

(A) Education, training and experience

Relevant qualifications in healthcare, business, information technology, project management or a related field, or equivalent relevant professional experience. Appointment level will reflect the candidate’s experience and demonstrated capability.

  1. Substantial experience leading complex digital or transformation projects through implementation and operational adoption.
  2. Evidence of helping stakeholders solve operational problems, managing difficult relationships and securing commitments without direct authority.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work independently, clarify unfamiliar problems and develop reasoned recommendations. Takes initiative, follows through and adapts after setbacks, with sound judgement about when to seek expertise or escalate.
  4. Practical experience of change management, utilisation monitoring and benefits tracking.
  5. Experience leading, training and coaching delivery teams, with evidence of improving others’ judgement and ability to deliver independently.
  6. Working understanding of AI concepts, implementation workflows, model limitations, evaluation, human oversight and monitoring.
  7. Clear writing, presentation and communication with frontline staff, technical teams and senior leadership.

Additional advantages

Project management certification, such as Project Management Professional (PMP), or formal change management training is advantageous. AI project delivery, healthcare and software development experience are additional advantages.
